What is a Community Advisory Committee?

An advisory committee is typically a volunteer advisory group of appointed community members. These committees are not decision-making bodies. Instead, they provide public input, guidance, and recommendations to help improve support outcomes in the community.

Developmental Pathways recently established our long-term Community Advisory Committee (CAC).

This committee marks a new chapter in improving services and amplifying community voices. We can’t wait to partner with our committee members on this journey. Congratulations to our eleven inaugural CAC members:

Laura Ayres

My youngest son was born with Fragile X syndrome, and our family has been a part of Developmental Pathways for 26 years. I have been a mentor with PEAK Parent Center, served on the Cherry Creek School District Special Education Advisory Committee, and am the current leader for the Colorado Chapter of the National Fragile X Foundation. I hope to increase knowledge for families by serving on the CAC.

I am the mother of two children; the youngest has autism. They are my greatest blessings. I am from El Salvador, and as a Latina, I want to represent all Spanish-speaking families and bring their feelings to the CAC. I want to be part of the solutions for the community and help reduce and eradicate the barriers that families face when seeking help within the system for our children with disabilities. I studied Communications and Journalism and have more than 20 years of experience in marketing, customer service, and social networks. I’ve spent nine years in the medical field and almost four years as a Family Specialist within El Grupo Vida, helping families with children with disabilities. My passion is helping people.

Carson Covey

I am part of the disabled community and have a passion for disability advocacy. I hope to help families navigate the Medicaid system and support this community to thrive and live their best lives. I work with various advocacy organizations and hold a disability policy certificate from the LEND program at CU Medical Anschutz. Currently, I am a policy advocate for Family Voices and provide testimony at the Colorado Capitol on bills for children with complex health issues. I previously sat on the board of directors of The Arc of Colorado as the lead policy volunteer and served on the board for The Arc of Arapahoe, Douglas, and Elbert Counties. I feel I can lend my experience to address issues in the community and am excited to help bring people together as a productive team.

Jeannie Davis

I served as vice president of a non-profit organization created in memory of my niece, who had special needs and various physical and cognitive disabilities. As a caregiver for my parents, who were impaired with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, I learned a lot about service gaps within our community. As a member of the CAC, I intend to contribute my skills, knowledge, and abilities to help achieve the continued success of Developmental Pathways. As a recently retired business owner, my community involvement, volunteerism, and board service span five decades with various non-profit organizations.

Kelley Durrant

I am the proud mom of a son with special needs, who is a miracle and a light to all of those around him. The journey has not been without its challenges, though. Having served as a member of the Interim CAC, I see my participation with the long-term CAC as a way to help give insight and perspective to some of those challenges, as well as offer input as to how to hopefully alleviate many of them, to make disability services and community easier to navigate and a true benefit to all.

Genevieve Miller

With nearly a decade of experience in mental health and social services, I have dedicated my career to supporting individuals with disabilities, working with adults, children, and families in various clinical roles. In addition to my professional background, I have volunteered with Special Olympics Colorado for several years, further deepening my commitment to advocacy and inclusion. As a parent of a child with autism, I bring both personal and professional perspectives to my role on the advisory committee at Developmental Pathways. I am honored to contribute my knowledge and experience while also learning from fellow committee members and the broader community.

Roxane Miller-Freutel

With over 40 years of experience in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), I am passionate about advocating for individuals with diverse needs. My connection to the disability community comes from having a brother with I/DD, Autism, and mental health challenges. As a committee member, I aim to ensure that policies and services reflect the true needs of individuals with disabilities. My extensive program development and advocacy background allows me to contribute meaningfully to the CAC’s mission. I am committed to fostering inclusivity and supporting systemic improvements for those with disabilities.

Olufunmilola ‘Lola’ Ogunmodede

I work for a Program Approved Service Agency (PASA) registered with Developmental Pathways. I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and Progressive Home Health Services administrator. As a former Public Health Registered Nurse, I worked as a case manager for Special Infant Project (SIP) babies, in-home care for infants who are at risk for developmental delay, and as a case manager for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) individuals for six years, advocating for them and linking them with available resources in the community. With my nursing background and case management experience in public health, I hope to connect individuals with I/DD with resources to help them live a well-deserved life with dignity.

Yvette Plummer

I am the Executive Director of Show and Tell, an organization that helps parents of children with disabilities navigate the special education system by offering free workshops and one-on-one parent advising. I’m the mother of a 23-year-old man with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the sister of a 45-year-old man with ASD. I hope that by serving on the committee, I will ensure that families feel heard when things don't go as planned, and not only heard, but empowered with actionable solutions.

Ashley Ranasinghe

As a foster parent to three children with varying special needs, I'm deeply connected to the disability community and passionate about making a difference. On the CAC, I hope to use my personal experiences and professional skills to implement inclusive policies and support systems with continuous improvements. With my background as a Director of Operations for a learning & development company, I bring strong organizational and leadership skills to help make a positive impact.

Cindy Stevens

I am a mom to a 34-year-old with Cerebral Palsy and an I/DD is on the SLS waiver, and the DD waiver waitlist. As a member of this committee, I hope to represent individuals with disabilities in the Developmental Pathways catchment area and to help ensure compliance, communication, and transparency to maximize disability services for all. I actively volunteer to advocate for Medicaid and disability rights and am passionate about affordable, inclusive, and supportive housing.

We extend our gratitude to the interim CAC members whose valuable contributions in 2024 set us up for success with their recommendations on our CAC guidelines. Read more of their recommendations in our report.

The DP CAC consists of nine to eleven volunteer members, each serving two- to three-year terms. Committee members collaborate with a diverse group of community members and provide recommendations for the direction of Developmental Pathways’ efforts.

The committee meets every other month, both online and in-person, with a focus on:

  • Providing a meaningful platform for sharing information with the community

  • Elevating community voices and perspectives

  • Identifying community support priorities

  • Suggesting improvements and making recommendations related to Long-Term Care Case Management Agency (CMA) and local programming

  • Reviewing and supporting our complaint process, including holding space for public comment during meetings
